Safety Tips for Female Travellers

If you’re traveling alone as a woman, hotel safety isn’t about fear—it’s about staying in control of your environment.
It starts with information. Your room number is one of the most important things to protect. Never say it out loud, never share it casually, and stay aware of who might overhear it.
Next: use the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign strategically. Even when you’re not inside, it creates uncertainty about whether the room is occupied, which can discourage unwanted attention.
Then add your own layer of security. A portable door lock or wedge is small, easy to carry, and can prevent someone from entering—even if they have a key.
Be mindful of your digital presence too. Posting your location in real time might seem harmless, but it tells people exactly where you are while you’re still there.
And finally, think ahead the moment you enter your room. Know where the exits are, how you’d leave quickly, and what your plan would be if something didn’t feel right.
Because real safety isn’t about reacting in the moment, it’s about preparing before anything happens.
You don’t need to be afraid to travel alone, but you should always remain vigilant. Whereever you are.
