Earlier this year, Cape Verde made headlines after hundreds of tourists had serious stomach illnesses from food poisoning at luxury resorts. And tragically, several British tourists later died after becoming severely sick from this.

Now, most hotel stays are completely fine. But it does show how important hotel hygiene and food safety really are. Especially when people can die from it.
So when you travel, especially to all-inclusive resorts, pay attention to the warning signs:
Buffet food sitting out too long, dirty dining areas, bad smells, poor reviews mentioning sickness or unsafe drinking water.
A few simple habits can also make a huge difference:
Wash your hands regularly;
Drink bottled water;
Be careful with ice cubes and uncooked foods;
And always check recent hotel reviews before booking.
And don’t ignore severe symptoms. If you become seriously ill during a trip, get medical help early.
A luxury hotel should help you relax, not put your health at risk.
